Mattie Engineer · Designer · Maker

Using my curiosity to bring ideas to life.

Director of Fibonacci HQ, bringing sailing to life with digital experiences that inspire more people to get out on the water. I love creating things, whether that’s engineering hardware, digital experiences, or writing software. Right now, I’m researching autonomous underwater vehicles and building a robotic sea turtle at Imperial College London, while contributing to AI research with the KTH AI Society.

What I'm Working On

I'm here to make something cool. Here's what's going on at the moment.

Fibonacci HQ

A design firm for creating complete digital presence's in the luxury yacht charter niche. I connect all functionality clients need, and optimise for searchability and user conversion.

Hackathon Q

Yet to be released, but in the works: Co-founding an organisation to create hackthon events. On a mission to support the first solo billion dollar company, and doing it here in Europe.

Engineering

MEng Mechanical Engineering, Imperial College London. Currently researching Autonomous Underwater Vehicle control methods, and building an AUV Robotic Turtle.

Why

I love making things, so I'd say engineering is my raison d'être.

Since I was 14, I’ve been prototyping circuits, pneumatics, and mechatronic systems. I do engineering not just because I love solving problems, but because it keeps me learning, healthy, and alive to the world. However it also matters to me is how that skill is used. I’ve built medical devices that save lives, designed products people truly need, and worked hard to make sure innovation doesn’t cost the planet.

But my motivation runs deeper. I care fiercely about gender equality, my health and happiness, and my legacy. I’m determined to make engineering a space where everyone, especially women and non "tech-bros", can come as they are and bring their ideas to life. I go to hackathons across Europe, not just to create, but to make those rooms feel like home for all kinds of minds.

And my legacy? I was raised considering generations ahead, while learning from the history we come from. I now build digital identities for sailing and yachting companies because being out on the water, in nature, has shaped who I am. It’s freedom, curiosity, and joy. And I refuse to let that culture fade into the past. If I can share my joy for life, for equality, for creation and leave behind something that improves lives for the next few generations, then I’ve done what I came here to do.
